Srce Veleža via ferrata is located on one of the most attractive climbing rocks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is highly
demanding due to both the long and challenging approach and return, as well as the extremely demanding climbing on a
rock approximately 350 metres high. Pay attention to the choice of season and weather conditions for climbing and keep
in mind that on the southern side of the mountain, near the peak of Botin, there is a bivouac named "Armin Gazić" that can
serve as shelter or overnight accommodation.
The via ferrata begins with a vertical leap on an inclined rock. After the jump, the path turns to the right into a traverse and
then ascends vertically through a series of chimneys and ledges, reaching the most difficult, overhanging part of the via
ferrata. Careful attention is required here to prevent potential falls and injuries. Continuing over the overhang, the route
proceeds through a series of vertical plates until an attractive traverse to the left and the final vertical ascent leading to a
sloping ridge. From there, follow the marked trail along the ridge to the peak of Botin.
Who is it for: Physically and mentally fit adults
How to get there: From Nevesinje, follow the asphalt road alongside Alagovac Lake to the village of Lakat. Turn
left onto a gravel road that leads to the village of Zijemlja. After 2 km, turn left onto a forest road and drive another 2 km to
reach the forestry cabin located at the Jezero location. The total distance from Nevesinje to Jezero is 19 km. From Jezero, a
hiking trail leads to the Amphitheatre, which takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes of walking. From the hiking trail, turn left
towards the via ferrata. It takes about half an hour more to reach the entrance of the via ferrata.
Approach: 120 minutes
Length of the via ferrata: 500 meters
Elevation difference: 350 meters
Technical difficulty: C/D
Average crossing time: 120 minutes
The return is via a marked hiking trail over the peak of Botin and to the Jaram pass, from where two paths lead to Jezero.
One path goes via the Amphitheatre, and the other goes via Velika Poljica.
The time required for both paths is
approximately the same, around 4 hours.
