Osobac is a long and interesting via ferrata with a beautiful view of the surroundings during both ascent and descent. Near the entrance to the ferrata, there's the Jezerce mountain hut, where you can find a spring with drinking water.
The first section of the ferrata leads vertically up to an overhanging rock chimney, where the ferrata turns left along a steep slab until the beginning of an exposed ridge. It's necessary to pay attention to falling rocks while moving to avoid endangering climbers below. Continuing on, the ferrata follows a prominent ridge with occasional passages through dense vegetation until reaching the summit of Mali Osobac. From Mali Osobac, the ferrata path continues further across the ridge and steep terrain towards the peak of Veliki Osobac.
Who is it for: Physically and mentally fit adults
How to get there: From Konjic, follow the signpost to Boračko Lake, drive to the intersection in the village of Borci, where you turn right towards Rujište and Mostar. The asphalt road quickly turns into a gravel road, passable even for cars with careful driving. The length of the road to Crno Polje is 10 km. At the first road fork you encounter, continue to the right, following the sign to Rujište - Mostar. At the second road fork, turn left slightly uphill, following the sign for Crno Polje (CP). Near the end of the road, there's a sharp bend where the road splits. The branching road leads slightly downhill compared to the main road that goes to the right. At the fork, there's a stone with "CP - Crno polje" written on it. At this fork, continue straight towards Crno Polje. Crno Polje marks the end of the gravel road, and there's a large clearing. You can park several cars here, but be cautious of heavy trucks and forestry machinery. The hiking trail begins from the clearing. In the initial few hundred metres of the trail, stick to the path and avoid entering the forest, as this part of the trail passes through a potentially explosive area.
After covering 5.2 km and about 2 hours of easy walking, you'll reach an intersection where this trail joins the one coming from the direction of Bijele vode. After a 10-minute walk, you'll arrive at a point with a sign indicating the ascent to Osobac via the "via normale" route. This point is reached after descending from the summit and completing the ferrata climb. The marked path continues towards the Jezerce mountain hut, but you need to turn slightly to the right and follow an unmarked but visible trail that passes below Mali Osobac. After 10 minutes of walking, this trail meets with the hiking path that leads from the Jezerce mountain hut to Konjic. Turn right and follow the path gently downhill until you reach a point where a sign indicates the turn towards the entrance of the ferrata. From the sign, walk uphill until you reach the entrance of the ferrata; the cable at the beginning of the vertical section is clearly visible.
Approach: 2.5 hours
Length of the via ferrata: 1200 meters
Elevation difference: 480 meters
Technical difficulty: B/C
Average crossing time: 3 hours
Descending from the summit of Osobac is done via the "via normale" route, which leads to the base of Osobac. Be careful during the descent as the trail goes through grassy steep terrain before entering a forest of pine and spruce trees. The trail is well marked and visible.
Important: The via ferrata is closed due to its poor condition.
