The "Kuk" via ferrata is the newest via ferrata in Bosnia and is excellent for beginners. There are resting spots from where one can enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Who is it for: Physically and mentally fit adults
How to get there: From the main road Foča - Gacko, turn towards the village of Čemerno, from where a gravel road leads
to the location of Papin Do, where the Papin Do mountain lodge is located. The gravel road, about 8 km long, is accessible
to all vehicles during the summer months. Upon reaching the mountain lodge, continue on the gravel road for another
150 meters, where it's possible to park the vehicle on either side of the road. It's also possible to continue driving on the
gravel road towards the Katuni (summer pastures) located in the valley below Kuk, but this is not recommended for
personal vehicles unless they are 4x4. The approach to the entrance of the via ferrata starts from the Papin Do mountain
lodge, following the trail leading to the peak of Bioč. Turn right when you see the "winter" markers on your right. Follow the
"winter" marked trail across the grassy meadow until you reach a water source, where there is an information board for the
via ferrata. From the information board, continue on the arranged path across scree slopes, which is marked with signs
Approach: 80 minutes
Length of the via ferrata: 830m
Elevation difference: 200m
Technical difficulty: B/C
Average crossing time: 120min
After completing the via ferrata, you will arrive at a plateau, from where you follow the via normale trail for Kuk for the
descent. The trail leads downhill across open terrain and sharply turns right downhill towards a beech forest. The location
of the turn is marked with "winter" markers. After a short passage through the forest, you'll arrive in the valley below Kuk
and Jagodin Lake, where you need to follow the marked trail to the Papin Do mountain lodge.
