The via ferrata “Josif Fleger” is located on Trebević and is interesting because of its proximity to Sarajevo, as well as the opportunity to enjoy the shade of dense forests and beautiful views of the city and surrounding mountains during the summer months. The ferrata starts on the northern side of the rock, which is often damp due to rainfall and lingering snow in the spring. It follows a system of diagonal notches and ledges, mostly on easier, varied terrain. It is not physically or technically demanding, making it suitable for beginners. There are a few intersections with the more challenging Bijele Stijene ferrata, and these intersections are marked.
Who is it for: Physically and mentally fit adults
How to get there: From the center of Sarajevo, take the road that leads to Trebević through the Vraca settlement. Drive straight for about 10 km until you reach the Pino Nature hotel, then turn right onto the gravel road that leads to the Trebević Stari Grad mountain lodge. Park near the lodge and approach the rock by following the marked hiking trail until you reach the entrance of the Bijele Stijene ferrata. Continue straight for about 10 meters to the entrance of the Josif Fleger ferrata.
Approach: 15 minutes
Length of the via ferrata: 250 m
Elevation difference: 90m
Technical difficulty: A/B
Average crossing time: 30 min
The descent is also via a marked hiking trail, leading back to the lodge passing the "Tri budalaša" spring.
! The via ferrata needs to be fully reconstructed due to rusty cable and anchors, so we do not recommend its usage.
