The Mala Orlica via ferrata is not demanding and is suitable for beginners. The adventurous experience takes you through a rock window.
The via ferrata starts with a vertical entrance of about 4 metres in height, which then turns right into a short traverse that leads into the rock. It then ascends vertically towards the window at the top of the rock. The section is clean and solid, but caution is advised for climbers below. After exiting the window, the path continues on easier terrain, passing through natural ledges and footholds that go through the trees. Along the vertical climbing route to the exit of the window, there are metal footholds placed closely together, making movement very easy.
How to get there: The access point to the starting point of the via ferrata is via a local road that leads from Trnovo to the village of Dujmovići. After covering 9.5 km, there is a forest road made of gravel on the left side of the road. An information board describing the Mala Orlica via ferrata and the access to it is set up there. Vehicles can be parked in the widened area next to the road. From the information board, after walking about 30 meters from the gravel road, turn left onto a meadow with cart tracks crossing it.
Initially, for the first few hundred meters, follow the cart tracks that lead gently uphill across the meadow until you reach the edge of the forest, where the hiking trail begins. The trail marked with hiking signs leads through the forest path, and there's no need to deviate from it. The forest area around the path is marked as a potentially hazardous area due to mines. After a 15-minute walk, you will reach the end of the forest path, where a small clearing with a hunting stand is located. Continue straight ahead and you'll reach a resting area with a bench and a water source. A prominent sign placed on a tree above the bench indicates that the entrance to the via ferrata is just 5 minutes away. Follow the marked path on the left, which gently descends through the forest, and you'll soon see the rock with the via ferrata. At the entrance of the via ferrata, there's an information board with safety instructions for the climb. After completing the via ferrata, the path marked with hiking signs leads back to the resting area with benches and the water source. It takes about 5 minutes to walk back to the resting area. For the return to the parking area, follow the same path you used for arrival, through the forest and across the meadow. Access to the via ferrata is also possible from the direction of the village of Godinja. The total length of the hiking tour is about 6.1 km with an elevation difference of 400 meters. The path first leads to a picnic area by the source of the Željeznica River, from where it continues towards the via ferrata.
